Integrative Pet Health Expo

Sorry for the months of spotty blogging!  Just saw ‘Julie & Julia’, a bummer for Julia Child fans but a kind of a cattle prod for bloggers of any kind.  Not that I think anyone has missed reading my blog or has written in demanding an explanation, but I will tell you anyway that this has been an unbelievably busy spring & summer,  not just business-wise (thank goodness) but project-wise.  Now the Dog Wash is finished, the photo booth is close, the new counter is in, the floors are painted, the front window is replaced, and our new manager Heidi Powell is on board.  Our Portland store looks better than ever, and Boston is on the horizon in a real way (more on that later).

Moving to Boston makes me want to go back to school.  I’m looking for lectures & workshops on animal nutrition/health/training and so on.  I only found out about this event recently when a poster was dropped off at the store, and I’m going to try to catch some of it.  Here’s the schedule: Integrative Pet Health Expo. It’s in Fitchburg, MA on Thursday, September 10 & Friday, September 11.  Keynote speakers are Jean Dodds DVM, Martin Goldstein DVM and Judith Shoemaker DVM.  Dr. Shoemaker is also certified in veterinary acupuncture & veterinary chiropractic.  Dr. Goldstein is a bit of a celebrity vet, so you may have seen him on the tube at some point, probably chatting with Martha or Oprah.  His book, The Nature of Animal Healing, was hugely formative to my interest in natural health & healing for animals.  I’m also very interested in Dr. Dodds’ talk on vaccines & vaccination issues on Thursday evening.  Her background is heavy on hematology and immunology, which seems to me to be an excellent window into vaccines, antibodies,& titers.  Anyone going?  Know of any other educational events in the animal world in New England this fall?  Send a note if so; I’d love to know.
